Abacus Docs is pay-as-you-go. Extraction, reprocess, schema tests, chat, and Black Hole filing spend credits from the organization balance. The header chip shows how many credits you have left and links to Settings → Billing.

What actually spends credits

Page rates for extraction and schema tests, model usage for the schema-builder agent and Chat, and what is free.

Welcome credits

A new individual account can Activate free credits during onboarding — 1,000 credits, no card. That is the free grant, not a subscription. Enterprise auto-join (a verified work email that matches an existing enterprise domain) can receive a smaller welcome grant into the shared pool, once per account.

Packs

On Settings → Billing, Owners and Admins can buy: Prices are USD. Kuwait-billed organizations follow a subscription status instead of this pack list. Enterprise members do not see purchase controls. The page tells them the organization manages billing and shows an admin contact.

When credits run out

A zero-balance organization is steered to a credits-exhausted page (or pricing, on some hosts). You can still read work you already paid for — open documents, browse batches, and revoke shares. New extraction and chat turns are blocked until someone buys a pack or an admin grants credits. Archived organizations and lapsed subscriptions are blocked more broadly.

Enterprise

Enterprise organizations share one credit pool. Upgrade paths and domain auto-join are handled in product; do not use the retired /enterprise/ dashboard — it redirects to organization tools, and its old usage export is gone.
Credits are not tokens and not millicredits. The product UI always speaks in credits.
